Hall 2.2 (Pure Editions)

For years, the young and up-and-coming representatives of the next generation of designers have been presenting their products at imm cologne under the banner “Young Professionals“. They have a firm conceptual and artistic standing within the Pure Editions segment, in which they assert their independence and their place under the new name “Startups”. At Startups, young and independent designers and design studios have the opportunity to present their ideas to a wide audience, generating contacts with manufacturers, journalists and retailers – a professional platform for young design.

At Startups, the work of young designers acts as a rejuvenating force on the professional industry. Young designers have the confidence to work with new technologies and their talent for improvising allows them to transform their ideas into prototypes. In doing so, they convey a sense of self-sufficiency and initiative. Full-time positions for college graduates are even harder to find than commissioned work, so many designers face the prospect of realising their product ideas by themselves: as either spectacular one-off pieces or in small production runs. The result is that a distinctive aesthetic has developed, one which is less commercial and one which makes fewer compromises. Humourous, unconventional, extravagant, ambitious and visionary, but also sometimes just beautifully simple – this is the face of young design.

The Startups event rounds out imm cologne’s longstanding activities to promote international, young designers and will take place Hall 2.2.
